Theme: New People and New Places

Posters and Demos Show Opening

Get close to a poster holder and use the proximity interaction in Gather.Town tool to interact with the presenter and other attendees.

Chase the Rabbit and Discover new Places

Mon Sep 14, 13:30-15:30 (EDT)
An icebreaker to get familiar with the spaces in Gather.Town and bump into interesting people. Go and locate the “rabbits” who are hopping around. Volunteer attendees will randomly transform into “rabbits”. To collect the rabbits you must have a video/voice chat with them, record their name, and upload a screenshot to your Challenges Form. Don’t forget to take a screenshot together. Use the locate() feature from Gather.Town to locate the rabbits, run fast to chase them and remember: a person who chases two rabbits catches neither!

If you want to volunteer to serve as a rabbit please enter your name and email address in the linked Google form. Your name will be announced in Gather.Town and attendees will chase you: I want to be a Rabbit

Comida con Amigos y una Copita en el Bar

Speed networking (Dos Amigos Room)

Meet a new member of the UbiComp / ISWC community every two minutes, learning a bit about each other. Just drop by and sit in front of another attendee, use the suggested questions or use your own.

Pick an Area from the Bag

An icebreaker to better know the Gather.Town spaces. Navigate the main foyer, the terrace and the service foyer and collect new spaces. To “collect a space” you must have a group video/voice chat with at least 5 attendees, upload their name and your photo together on the Challenges Form. Collect as many spaces as you can to win the challenge and try to engage as many participants as you can in your conversations.

Tacos by the Beach y Aguas Frescas al Bar

Whenever you have down time, stop by the Restaurant and/or the Bar on the Terrace to engage with other UbiComp / ISWC attendees. Warning: to enter the Bar and Restaurant you have to bring your tacos (or other food) and side them with “optionally alcohol adulterated” Aguitas Fresquecitas.

Ask Me Anything (Landmarks Room)

Join a small gathering for an informal conversation, each hosted by one senior member of the UbiComp / ISWC community. Up to 4 people can join the table, and we will rotate after 30min. Just drop by and sit in the designated area if you are the Ask Me Anything host.

Scavenger Hunt

The hunt consists of five steps all focused on “collecting” other attendees. To collect another attendee you must have a video/voice chat with them in Gather.Town, take a screenshot, and ask if you can put them down on your Challenges Form. Any UbiComp / ISWC participant should appear at most once on your form (you can’t use the same person for multiple challenges). Bonus: you can also use the Whova Mobile App to upload your best photos and win the Whova Photo Contest.

  1. Collect five attendees whose institutions are in five different countries (add the following to your Challenges Form: name, institution, country for each).
  2. Collect an attendee who received their undergraduate degree 5 years before or 10 years after you received yours. For example, if you received your degree in 2000, you are looking for someone who received theirs in either 1995 or 2010. (add to your Challenges Form: year and institution where you received your undergraduate degree [anticipated]; name, year and institution where the other person received their degree)
  3. Collect two attendees who are attending UbiComp / ISWC for the first time (add to your Challenges Form: name, institution for each)
  4. Collect two attendees who have attended UbiComp / ISWC at least five times before 2020 (add to your Challenges Form: name, institution for each)
  5. Collect two attendees who have been to Cancun, Mexico (the originally planned host city for UbiComp / ISWC 2020). (add to your Challenges Form: names for each)

Theme: Old and New Friends

Find the Mystery Chair

Wed Sep 16, 12:00-15:30 (EDT)
Find the Mystery Chair who hid the “golden egg”. You must uncover (1) which of the UbiComp / ISWC Chairs (UbiComp, ISWC) hid the golden egg? (2) What did they hide inside of it? and (3) Where did they hide it? Each of the Chairs has a card with the clues to uncover the Mystery Chair. Collect as many cards you can.

To “collect a card” you must have a video/voice chat with a Chair in Gather.Town, take a screenshot, and ask them to give you the information on their card. Submit all collected cards and the screenshot on your Challenges Form, together with your answers to uncover the Mystery Chair, and a photo of yourself with the golden egg. Bonus: you can also use the Whova Mobile App to upload your best photos and win the Whova Photo Contest.

Help SVs Escape the Island

SVs have been trapped in Cancun by the evil General Chairs.

You must help them to escape by uncovering (1) the room where they have been trapped in, (2) the vehicle they need to use for their escape, and (3) the tool they need to open the room they are trapped in.

Each SV has a card with clues to help them escape the island. Collect as many cards as you can to answer the questions, and take a picture with at least one SV in the room they have been trapped in. Bonus: you can also use the Whova Mobile App to upload your best photos and win the Whova Photo Contest.

This is Your Jam Session (Restaurant/Bar)

Do you have artistic skills? Can you sing, play, paint, or anything else you want to share with your fellow attendees? Announce it in Whova, and jam it all the way through at the Restaurant and/or the Bar on the Terrace.

Join an industry table hosted by a company or sponsor to discover what opportunities are there outside of the academic track. Just drop by and sit in the designated area if you are the Industry Host.
