UbiComp / ISWC 2023
Sensory Rooms

At UbiComp/ISWC 2023 we welcome you and recognize you might have additional needs to support neurodivergence, disability or religious practice. To support your needs we have created a special space that we call the Sensory Rooms. Here, you can find all the information for attending UbiComp/ISWC and using the Sensory Rooms.

The Sensory Rooms are broken into three categories:

  • Silent Room
  • Quiet Room
  • Chill Room

What is the difference between the three sensory rooms? Below we explain the difference and direct you to the correct room for various needs and activities.

If you have any questions or concerns, or you feel your needs are not being adequately addressed, please contact us at jedi-2023@ubicomp.org

What is the difference between the three sensory rooms?

Neurodivergence, especially autism, requires differing levels of stimulation for different people. Sometimes, a completely silent space is required for de-stimulation, whereas sometimes space is required to fidget and spend excess energy. Our Sensory Rooms will provide that.

Additionally, we are aware of other needs, such as prayer spaces, and are trying to use these
rooms for double duty for compatible activities.

Consequently, we have divided the rooms into three zones. For each of these rooms, we
have recommended activities and activities to be avoided

Room Suggested Activities Please Avoid

  • De-stimulation room for autism
  • Silent Prayer and meditation
  • Naps

  • Any electronic devices
Quiet

  • Meditation with quiet mantras or quiet spoken prayers
  • Conversation space for D(d)eaf/Hoh attendees
  • Conversation unless with D(d)eaf/Hoh attendees

UbiComp / ISWC

Past Conferences

The ACM international joint conference on Pervasive and Ubiquitous Computing (UbiComp) is the result of a merger of the two most renowned conferences in the field: Pervasive and UbiComp. While it retains the name of the latter in recognition of the visionary work of Mark Weiser, its long name reflects the dual history of the new event.

The ACM International Symposium on Wearable Computing (ISWC) discusses novel results in all aspects of wearable computing, and has been colocated with UbiComp and Pervasive since 2013.

A complete list of UbiComp, Pervasive, and ISWC past conferences is provided below.
